Creating a new system for my school using ICT

My school has many students who are planning for their future and their careers. Since the modern world of business is so competitive, it is important to know what the individual is most interested in and hope they can benefit from it the most, hence the salary.

In this project I was given the specification ‘to create a program which includes a look up system for St. Helens’ sixth form girls’. This program should be made simple and trouble free so that it will not increase stress in an overly worked and tired student. This programme should help them to see how much the specific job earns, lifetime earning and the salary at the age of retirement. This should help the student decide what career she would like to pursue.

My Objectives For This Project Are As Follows:

* To make a look up programme that is easily accessible

* To include the main jobs that the majority of the people look into

* To have a list of codes for the jobs so the students can assess the information easily.

* And to make it appealing to the students

To produce the look up programme I will need to use the following hardware and software:

Hardware

A Hewlett Packard printer – to print the project and the evidence and the process of making the programme.

Software

Microsoft Excel- in order to create the lookup table and list the jobs and the codes.

Microsoft Windows- to write up my project i.e., the introduction, results, analysis and evaluation.

The programme should, again, be easily accessible and be easy to use. The programme should have the right sort of information that an A-Level or As student is looking for in their search for the right job for them.

The job list should include the main jobs that are looked into nowadays i.e., doctors, designers etc, and then expanded i.e., designer:interior, doctor:pediatrics.

Most of the job titles will be searched on the programme Odyssys and from the internet. The salaries for the jobs will also be researched on the internet and the programme.

For my implementation I will include many screen dumps to show the

evidence and the process of producing this programme.

This programme will have to as professional as it can and therefore there cannot be any silly spelling mistakes and so in order to avoid this I will use spell check in Microsoft word to correct my spelling.

I think that I have been very successful in creating a suitable trouble free programme in which sixth form students in St. Helens school can find information about the salary rates.

In my identification section I said my objectives for the programmes were:

I have achieved this as I tested the programme on few of my friends and they all found that accessing the programme was easy.

* To include the main jobs that the majority of the people look into

I also achieved this as I researched the main titles of the jobs such as doctors, designers and lawyers, and then I expanded them i.e., doctors:pediatrician doctors: GP Designers:footwear

Designers:interior lawyer:defence etc.

* To have a list of codes for the jobs so the students can assess the information easily.

After finding and entering all the job titles into the look up table

I entered the codes in which the students have to type in inorder to get the information about the job. I did this by using the initials of the job or using the first two letters of each words in the job. I.e., Arts Administrator:AA Costume Designer:COD

* And to make it appealing to the students

I did this by adding colour to the cells and using a different colour for the places to insert information so that the students know where to insert their information like their age and job codes. I also used big bold writing to make it clear for the person whose reading the programme to understand and this is also a benefit for the persons’ eye as it does not strain the eyes.

Another topic I researched was the theme. Like shapes, a means of storage can also include themed designs and colours to make it more appealing to the consumers or to blend with the storage’s environment i.e., a room with a train wallpaper would find that the ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ (Fig. 5) storage would be more suitable than a ‘Winnie the Pooh’ storage. (Fig. 6)

The obvious way to create themed products are to paint or draw the design onto the product, however, the shape of the storage can also contribute to the affect of the storage i.e., Fig. 1 is suitably shaped like a fire truck and painted like one so that it gives it more affect, just like it does in Fig. 8. The back of the storage bench is shaped like a teapot, which gives an increasing, affect of the item.

During the research for storage units I found that there could be many different styles of storage, i.e., bags, crates, boxes, cupboards etc. most of these storage units are for specific objects. For example, Fig. 9 shows that the storage was specifically for CDs, DVDs and videos. Fig. 10 shows a case full of beanie bears, these bears are my mother’s collection and this DIY case was specified for ornamental objects or collectors items and the clear plastic was to ensure that the bears could be seen fully, yet protecting them at the same time.

Fig. 13 shows that the storage space can be created in existing spaces, i.e., using the space efficiently. Just like the bed in fig. 13, fig. 14 can be used as a small side table, seat and storage.

Another feature that I researched was the materials. Different means of storage can be made from any materials such as plastics, textiles, wood and metal. Clearly the materials contribute to the style of the end product i.e., if the storage was made of wood than it could be made as a flat pack so that it can be assembled and the disassembled again so it can be simply portable. This also applies for the storage made out of textile material as it can be easily folded up and stored away if necessary (Fig. 12 and Fig. 15). Plastic is also a good storage material (Fig. 16), however, during my research I found that there were not that many plastic storages, although there were a lot of storage with plastic handles, doors etc.

I also found that there are a considerable amount of storage units for confined space (such as airing cupboards), since there are many apartments and flats were there is a limited amount of space. As a result the storage can be made multifunctional. Fig. 11 shows a side of the room where all the things are neatly stored in a limited amount of space. This shows hat space can be used efficiently with the right means of storage. Another example of a good space for storing is a wardrobe, however with the right equipment a lot more can be stored in a certain amount of space as shown in fig. 12
