Evaluation of Our Performance – Twelfth Night
I thought our performance went really well as everything went smoothly and no problem aroused. We had an audience of approximately 13-14 members. The Sound effects and music were presented really well as they were placed on cue and had no delay. For example for the first scene the music was Carnival of Animals- Elephant and this had to play exactly when Kazim says Sir Toby Belch: “What a plague means my niece, to take the death of her brother thus? I am sure care’s an enemy to life. ” Here Kazim was depending on me as when I start the music he steps onstage.
Also the lighting went very smoothly as Shaquille and Awnit had decided to switch to control the lighting whenever the other was not on stage. We used very simple lighting which gave a general wash of colour a too much eccentric lighting would have modernised and taken the attention of the play. The lighting was also used when we had scene changes and due to not having to move around props the scene changes were quick and easy. It was much easier as keep intact where the audience were sitting and could easily signal Shaquille when we were ready as he was behind the audience watching us.
I most enjoyed the last scene which way of Malvolio, Maria and Olivia as I thought it was hilarious and Kazim portrayed the upside of Malvolio very funny and we could clearly establish the contrast from earlier an now. Also I thought in Act 1 Scene 5 When Viola visits Olivia I thought we did very well in this scene as here I practiced hard and wanting to get Viola character right I looked at different interpretations and was advised to add energy to my character yet being reserved. For example my entrance “The honourable lady of the house, which is she? here I made an elaborate entry and bowed down as she if a Countess.
By doing this is established the relationship between us and showed the audience what my status was. I most struggled with plosives within my script and had to overcome this by making a voice routine which enabled me and I saw a good change within how I said my lines and how I delivered them. I think for our next performance we should not only consider but make a set design in order to create a visual dynamic and this will add to the performance as a setting is in place and we can clearly distinguish what place or setting a performance is occurring.
Things we could improve for our performance are maybe using the hall for our performance as it is a change to our regular performance and more people will come if we perform on the stage. Also for our next performance I think it would be great to maybe use actual big props as we are going kitchen sink drama we can use household furniture to make the set look homely and to establish the house. Also we can change around the roles of what each person does i. e. as I was props design perhaps someone else could take up this role and I could do Lighting this way the group is challenged are does not repeat roles which can sometime be boring.
